Pachakuti - by Paul M Sivert, L.C.P.C.

On September 11, 2001, I watched television for fourteen hours. As I watched, listened, and felt the sensation presented through a television, I remembered that we are living through a pachakuti. A time when a world perishes and the next begins. I keep reminding myself as so many others do that the world changed on September 11, 2001. That date is a marker in time we can identify (at least it is my hope we will be able to identify) as a pachakuti, an overturning of space and time.

In the Winter, 1999 edition of the Shaman's Times, using Joan Parisi Wilcox's book "Keepers of Ancient Knowledge" as a resource, I wrote: A pachakuti signals a dynamic point of intersection in space and time between human consciousness and kawsay, the multidimensional creative principle and the animating energy of the cosmos, an intersection from which the arrow of time for each possible future is nudged in one direction or the other. So we have a choice, a path to select a new journey to commence. A danger does exist that we may choose, status quo, which means no choice.

Choosing status quo is a choice to remain the same; spiritually, politically, economically, religiously, morally, and intellectually. To decide to stay safe is an ego response as opposed to an instinctual response. Generally, the individual ego and the collective ego desire to be safe, wittingly or unwittingly supporting class structure, class struggle, perpetuating institutions whether their mission is just or not and maintaining our economic survival on black gold - oil. Others have already correctly analyzed that the terrorist attack that manifested on September 11, 2001 was an attack on freedom. Many people are justly polarized that freedom must triumph over terror or hatred. Therefore a war is justified on many fronts; politically, geographically, economically and ideologically to rid the world of hatred. This sounds, looks and feels like a direction, a goal, but is this choice bound to ego and tied to our fears or from our hearts; an instinctual response to transform our consciousness, individually and collectively to embrace a world environment that is truly focused on peace, liberty, freedom and equality.

The instinctual response comes from remembering who we are as human beings and soul beings. We are a soul being first having a human experience in a physical form, that will end-die. Our fear of this event, an ego formulated thought form keeps many of us trapped in our minds and preoccupied with our physical existence, ignoring the soul body's journey in this three dimensional experience. The instinctual response comes from the integration of energy from our minds, bellys and heart but from the soul body, or energy body not the physical body, which is only a representation of the translation of the experience of the ego.

I believe Medicine People actually look forward to a pachakuti because it presents the opportunity of the greatest potential for individuals and groups to become aware and to grow. The first responsibility of a medicine person in this situation is to "hold sacred space." This means the medicine person actively supports with their consciousness the linkage between human consciousness and kawsay.

Kawsay (pronounced cow-sigh) is the vital living energy that animates the cosmos. It is a force, and a substance that infuses creation and brings energy into a world of manifestation. Kawsay pacha means the world of living energy. (Please note kawsay pacha and pachakuti, each world contains pacha - world). Each of us having an awareness on some level of kawsay pacha. Kawsay is comprised of two forms; sami (light energy) and hucha (heavy or dense energy). According to this cosmology, only humans have hucha, plants and other animals do not. A pachakuti may display incredible forms of hucha, in an attempt to show us human beings we are not living in perfect ayni (which means reciprocity). An outcome of a pachakuti is to restore harmony. This harmony may be experienced on many levels, personal, family, community, national, and global. This pachakuti appears to have a destiny to impact on all levels. There are very few people on this planet that do not possess some conscious awareness of this pachakuti which is symbolized by a war.

The medicine people of the Andes have been teaching us for years how to prepare for the time we are experiencing. They have a prophecy that stated you and I are living through an Era of Light from 1992-2012. There are tremendous possibilities available to us to transform our consciousness, to let go of our ego, to evolve spiritually and develop an authentic connection and loving relationship with our soul. To engage the possibilities a person must decide to choose growth over security. If you choose growth you are making available to yourself the map of possibilities. The energy of these possibilities lies in our personal condition and relationship to embrace the energy of kawsay. We can learn to engage this energy, actually the process is an act of remembering. Each person has the capacity to remember the relationship that exists between the soul body (energy) and physical body and how that relationship is maintained by unconditional love. We have a lot to learn and a possibility in the form of a pachakuti is here, now, what will you choose growth or security. What will your family, community, country and earth choose?

My heart to your heart - Chungo.
